Salary: $19.87 – $24.84 Hourly. Commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, provides legal research support and reviews, analyzes and organizes case-related material required for court presentation. Drafts motions and orders, pleadings, discovery, affidavits, and subpoenas. Manages attorney caseloads. Performs discovery and assists attorneys in all facets of work. Supervises the work of assigned paralegal and support staff. Assists attorneys in developing, implementing and evaluating systems to create more efficient work flow procedures. Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team and shows sensitivity to detail and confidentiality. Coordinates discovery, drafting, responding and calendaring in accordance with laws and procedures. Assists attorneys in case preparation. May locate and interview witnesses. Maintains statistical records and prepares reports. Case preparation may include, but is not limited to: obtaining, indexing and outlining criminal histories, offense reports and other relevant documents, analyzing jury lists and preparing and filing subpoenas and other legal documents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field AND three (3) years experience as a paralegal;
OR,
Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: *Paralegal Certificate from a professionally recognized Paralegal/Legal Assistant program.
Preferred: *Bilingual in English/Spanish *Project, lead or supervisory experience *Valid Texas Driver’s License *Prior experience with Child Protective Services/family law cases
Grant Funded until Sept. 20, 2010 and may be renewed.
Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and works some nights and weekends.
Work site: 205 West 9th Street
