full time Natural Resources Specialist

Salary: $19.87 – $24.84 Hourly. Commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts ecological inventories, identifies plant and animal species, enters information into database. Conducts species surveys and trapping efforts. Maps, processes and reports field data using GPS and GIS. Serves as Land Steward on preserve tracts to coordinate land management protection and enhancement efforts. Coordinates habitat restoration. Analyzes field data, and writes technical reports. Assists with the development and implementation of land management plans. Assists with public information, tours, presentations and works with volunteers.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology or a directly related field AND one (1) year of directly related, increasingly responsible demonstrated experience in natural resource management;
OR,
Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: *Valid Texas Driver’s License. *Pesticide Applicator License or must obtain license within six (6) months of date of hire.

Preferred: *Wildland Firefighter Certification (Red Card Certification). *Geographic Information System (GIS) and ArcGIS software experience. *U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Section 10(a)(1)(A) Scientific Permit and State Permit for monitoring endangered avian species and for monitoring endangered karst invertebrates. *Strong preference for knowledge of Central Texas endangered species and their habitats and GIS knowledge.

Hours: *8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and works some nights and weekends. *May include hours other than 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM when doing species monitoring.

Work site: 9512 RM 620 North, Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, Natural Resources Field Office
