Salary: $17.36 – $21.70 Hourly. Commensurate with experience.
Essential Functions
Screens cases referred to the Court and makes judgments as to appropriate action. Adjusts cases without legal actions, diverts or refers cases to other agencies when a juvenile/resident has been discharged. Negotiates agreements wherever possible in family law cases and/or makes recommendations to the District Attorney or to the court for other official action. Researches and investigates the background of each case and counsels children, their families and others to assess the situation and prepares reports for the court, other service agencies, and/or the Texas Youth Commission. Appears and testifies in court. Maintains records and generates statistical and other reports as required, utilizing manual and automated reporting systems. Following alleged violations of the law, provides various kinds of counseling and therapy to parents and children as needed, including visitations, parental involvement, crisis intervention, and counseling. Maintains current knowledge of available community resources for making referrals, participates in in-service training and continuing education and researches and maintains current knowledge of family law, counseling, treatment techniques, and applicable county-wide, departmental and division policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social or Behavioral Sciences or a directly related field AND three (3) years experience in social services, criminal justice or related field.
License: Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Special Requirements: *Must be at least 21 years of age. *Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer or eligible for certification within six (6) months of hire date, including successful completion of CPR First Aid and Handle with Care (state approved physical restraint techniques).
Preferred: Bilingual in English/Spanish

A: Grant Funded until 08/31/09 and may be renewed.
Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and works some nights and weekends.
